GREEN ONIONS

Bopping along this morning in iPodville with Green Onions on replay. Lunch today with Jasna and Jim "B" and I'll be skipping down the street to the Steam Clock Starbucks  for my morning fix of coffee and a scribble in my journal. I'm all washed and shaved but still in my gaunch. I know that's too much information ha ha.

Just received an e mail from John"F" in the UK, he been sailing in one of the coastal barges and sent some pictures of his adventure along with a shot of his newest main lady Lesley. It sure looked like a lot of fun.

Summer is finally here but it really hasn't gotten too hot yet, which is nice. The beaches are jammed and the outer harbor is filled with wind surfers and small sail boats. We have had a brisk breeze so the pollution has been blown up the Fraser valley and the air quality in town is very good. The UV index cranks up in the afternoon so its sun block time but at least I don't have to get my vitamin "D" from a bottle.

Otis Redding in concert now, he left us far too soon. I'm having one of those moments when the music has a grip and I want to dance around the crib singing at the top of my lungs. I won't however, I don't want my neighbors coming in and throwing a net over me, ha ha.

To all of you out there, would that you could all feel as good as I do now.

La Dolce Vita!

Ciao, JWL

I went through a period of time where musical artists I like seemed to be dropping like flies - Wes Montgomery, King Curtis, John Coltrane, and Otis Redding. The morning of his death I awoke to an overcast rainy day. He went down in a plane with his back up group The Barkays. A few of the members of the Barkays survived the crash and went on to make more music.

As a kid in the 50's, I loved the organ of Booker T. & the M.G.'s and their Green Onions. That was a funky jam during it's time. That group lasted 5 decades - integrated at a time when mixed bands were frowned upon. JWL, you brought back some memories! ;]

Dear Man...That is exactly the way I feel being around the music that I am so privileged to be filming for my documentary. The fact that the musician feed my passion for what they share with us actually makes me high. Reminds me of Firesign Theatre..."High on the real thing...." My daughter found an old album of theirs and sent it to me. Those were the days of screwball comedy that would have us rolling on the floor with laughter. Even the Blues elevates our mood. Listening to Tinsley Ellis, singing/playing on old Fred Rose tune, "Just Dropped In...to see what my condition is in...” Love the old tunes. The Captain is correct. Long live rock'n'roll hoochie coo! Continue to have a wonderful day, John.
