JOY

we shared the street
from keefer to powell
down to the sunrise market
me, this grandfather, and the boy
the grandfather  taciturn, slow and grave
and the boy bouncing along with exuberant joy
full of questions and mischief
and i, the other grandfather
following with a silly grin on my face
i lost them in the sunrise market
but i have an image
taken with with my ever present toy
of the grandfather and boy
and that wonderful moment
of exuberant
joy

Down here in the DTES we don't consider all streets "mean". Sure, most of the people are poor and not involved with the "isn't it awful" bits you see about the Hood in the media. If all of the victims were re situated in the neighborhoods they came from then their streets would be equally "mean".
