YOUR CHEATING HEART

My place
18`C
quiet
and cool

I could hardy decide between the pen and the keyboard. I got up and put on my shirt and turned on my computer. I typed out the first two lines and then turned on WWOZ and got some old Elvis Presley. It didn't really turn my crank and suddenly I questioned why I was doing what I was doing.

I didn't have a subject or a story line in mind, I just knew I had to write something.  Some old Hank Williams with a full orchestra and a voice singing the words way in the background. Your Cheating Heart will tell on you.

Crashed and then had a very restless night. Too much coffee yesterday so even though I was awake I couldn't get it together. I'm having one of those three typos per line days. My left side insists on correcting every typo as it happens so it very hard to get back to what ever it was that I was thinking.

Got up at 5:30 hrs. and watched the Tour de France. I don't have a favorite rider anymore and there is only one Canadian on the tour and he's very far back in the pack if in fact he is still in the race.

It was cool last night getting down to 10`C and that should have meant that I got a good night sleep but no joy there. I see that another lad from 2PPCLI has been killed in Afghanistan. More half staffed flags and another family devastated for God knows what. I feel for the family and the unit but still cannot see any reason for this sacrifice. Our American cousins have just lost nine killed the other day and for what? We seem to be only able to retaliate by bombing wedding parties and killing woman and children . That aught to win their hearts and minds.

I wonder at a country as rich as Canada which seems to have enough money for  playing "silly bitch" wars in other countries but cannot provide housing for our own homeless.  The estimate in Canada for people on the pavement or one pay cheque from the pavement is an estimated one million. We are also supposedly fighting the war on drugs by being in Afghanistan which is the only growth industry in that sad and battered country. Between the war on a word (terror) and the war on drugs the only winners are the military industrial complex. Go figure?

Ciao, JWL

Good blog thoughts - great photographs - you ask the hard questions how can Canadian taxpayers afford to fund our Canadian warriors in the fields of Afghanistan where row on row the poppies grow? When here at home our streets are filled with addicted homeless poor - they are not doing too much about it that's for sure - be well my friend - billy

What is WWOZ? Elvis? Gimme a break. Cannot listen to him with any passion anymore. Sorta like listening to the war on radio and television ... numbing. Totally appreciate your take on things today, but sorry that you were sleepless in Gastown. Being a long time insomniiac, I truly feel for ya. War on terror? Terror is there alright, but so are drugs ... always have been. THE WAR on each is an American invention to boldly go wherever they want to insinuate themselves. Not exactly La Dolce Vita ... eh? Ciao! back atcha, dude.

Great photos, that top one is harrowing. You can almost reach out and feel the fabric of his clothes between your fingers. I live quite near to Windsor Castle in England and I'm always shocked at the drive to and from there. For miles all you see is lush open countryside which belongs to the Monarchy and no bugger's allowed to set foot on it lest they be prosecuted. Meanwhile, they're are people nearby sleeping rough. It's not right!!!!
